Katie Spurlock

Hello and welcome to my portfolio. It’s my philosophy that when I create a new character, I treat them as an extension of my personality – myself. I treat each creation as if it has its own humanity and they all have their own freedom. I feel it’s important when building a story to create the world around its people; to make sure every character has a home.

Most of my childhood living in rural Ohio was spent absorbed in all kinds of media; I grew up on cartoons, comics, and games and later as a teen I'd add a bit of anime and manga to the mix. As a child I liked a plethora of genres and mediums; actiony cartoons like the Powerpuff Girls, Gritty comics like the TMNT, innocent games like Pokemon, all were things I felt inspired by. Like any kid, I wanted to make my own.

So as I got older I started to create my own characters, my own ideas, and my own worlds. Over the last decade I’ve been writing and drawing stories. My friends and I collaborate on characters and writing and in a few years we plan to open a studio together to produce our own work.

In my last two years of high school I attended the Career Technical Center in Springfield for graphic design and in 2015 I began attending Columbus College of Art and Design all to further my education.

I always strive to improve my writing and art and I’m always willing to try something new!
